Rethink Self-Care: Cultivating Inner Peace While You Work

Pal Patel

Forget bubble baths and scented candles – true self-care transcends temporary pampering. It's about cultivating inner peace, amidst the daily grind, through the mindful power of thought. This blog explores a revolutionary approach to self-care, one that doesn't require taking time off or escaping reality. Instead, it delves into the transformative potential of our own thoughts, revealing how we can weave moments of peace and well-being into the very fabric of our busy lives. So, ditch the spa brochures and join me on a journey inward, where every workday can become a self-care sanctuary.

When we think of self-care, images of spa days and leisurely breaks come to mind. While those methods have their place, I want to share a different perspective: self-care that infuses every moment, even amidst the bustle of daily tasks. This practice stems from the spiritual principles I learned at Brahma Kumaris World Spiritual University.

At its core, this approach lies in recognizing our true identity: a soul, a point of light, who controls the body. We are not the body; we are the souls. The mind is one of a sense of a soul through which we the soul create thoughts. And those thoughts I chose to create transcends into actions. And those thoughts are also responsible for how I feel physically and mentally. Just as a puppeteer commands their marionette, the thought we chose to create guide our every move. If I the soul choose to create thoughts of anger, and my actions may become harsh. I choose gratitude, and my interactions radiate warmth. Just like how our actions are reflection of thoughts we choose to create, our physical and mental health is also a reflection of thoughts. If I chose to create negative thoughts of stress, frustration, dislike towards work etc., my body will start feeling exhausted, fatigue, headache.

When it comes to the need to take a day of for self-care to get rid of exhaustion from previous day, consider this: I wake up stressed after a day of frustrations. I decide to "treat yourself" with retail therapy or a Netflix binge. While these offer temporary solace, the stress returns as soon as my day resumes. It's like applying a bandage without addressing the wound. Why? because as soon as I resume work I would start creating negative thoughts without realising it was the thoughts I created yesterday that made me feel stressed and tired.

So, Instead of taking a day off for so called self-care imagine replacing those negative thoughts you created yesterday at work with positive ones. Let’s say yesterday you perceived your workplace as a - A mountain of work at your desk? Reframe it as a "new day of challenges and opportunities." Feeling overwhelmed? Acknowledge it and then prioritize, tackling one task at a time. Notice how this shift in perspective alters your experience. Work becomes less a burden and more a chance to shine, transforming your day into a self-care haven.

Any thoughts I the soul create whether positive or negative ripple outward, affecting not just your mind but our body as well. Energy generated from thoughts flows readily, negative energy generated through negative thoughts will have negative effects on our body. Consider we got angry or frustrated because of something now that anger or frustration will affect our body negatively How? Extreme anger or frustration will give us headache, we will start feeling extreme heat in our body, our body will start trembling and so on. All this will make us feel tired at the end of the day. However positive energy generated though positive thoughts replace fatigue with vibrancy. You become less susceptible to the emotional roller coaster of daily life, maintaining a steady inner peace. Our body also feels energetic and healthy throughout the day. In essence when you create positive thoughts, you're practicing self-care on a fundamental level, nourishing both you the soul and your physical vessel your body through every mindful thought. That's why we need to practise self care at thought level rather doing superficial practises of self-care. And that's why creating positive thoughts helps us practise self-care at fundamental level.

Every thought we generate, good or bad, carries a ripple effect. It impacts not just our minds but also our bodies. Positive thoughts create energizing currents, while negativity casts a draining shadow. Consider a moment of anger or frustration. That internal storm translates into physical consequences. Headaches pound, heat simmers through us, bodies tremble. By day's end, we're left worn and weary. On the flip side, positive thoughts replace fatigue with vibrancy. We become less susceptible to emotional whirlwinds, finding a quiet anchor of inner peace. Our bodies resonate with health and energy throughout the day. In essence, cultivating positive thoughts is self-care at its core. Each mindful thought nourishes both the soul and its physical vessel – the body. This is why focusing on the very source of our experience, our thoughts, is far more impactful than superficial self-care practices. Creating positive thoughts is like tending the fertile ground from which well-being springs.

Creating positive thoughts isn't about denying challenging emotions or pretending everything is perfect. It's about acknowledging them, choosing how to respond, and cultivating a positive inner climate. Remember, you are the puppeteer, holding the reins of your thoughts and, consequently, your experience. Embrace this power and craft a workday—nay, a life—infused with the magic of self-care from within.

Imagine a world where stress melts away like morning mist, replaced by an unwavering inner calm. Where work isn't a burden, but a canvas for self-expression and joy. This is the power of mindful self-care – a symphony of positive thoughts orchestrating harmony within. By embracing this transformative practice, we not only elevate our daily experience but cultivate a wellspring of peace that nourishes both soul and body. So, take a deep breath, shift your perspective, and embark on this journey of self-discovery. Remember, the puppeteer of your experience is you. Choose positivity, weave inner peace into every moment, and watch your life blossom into a haven of self-care, from within.
